EA Sports announced today that the soccer title it is publishing in 2023 will be part of the new EA Sports FC brand, doing away with the FIFA brand name the series has used since the days of it's predecessors the Sega Genesis and Super NES. This announcement is a major change in one of the oldest and most popular continuously series in video game history.
"We're grateful for the many years of great cooperation in the world of FIFA," EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement. "The future of international football is very bright, and the worldwide fanbase is never stronger. We have an incredible chance to put EA Sports FC at the core of the sport and to bring even more innovative and authentic experiences to the growing football community."
The game, which will be FIFA-less, will continue to have "more than 300 licensed individual partners, providing players with access to more than 19,000 players across 700 teams in 100 stadiums and more than 30 leagues around the world." These partners include major international leagues, including that of the Premier League Mut 23 Coins, LaLiga, Bundesliga, UEFA, CONMEBOL, and numerous others.
