The image was posted from Reddit onto Twitter and was later popularized, and is one of the main progenitors of the ongoing user interface debate. Since then, numerous people including developers at Guerrilla Games, Nixxes Software and Ubisoft have weighed in with copious hot responses. Many argued that Elden Ring Runes user interface (and in turn its user experience) isn't great, in particular since it does a poor job in explaining what icons mean if you don't go over the equipment's descriptions or how they affect you while playing. Some players praised FromSoft's minimalist UI appearance for its ease of use and ease of use.
Elden Ring's UI is a little different, something some developers can be able to learn from considering how profitable the game has been for FromSoft since its inception. An experienced UI engineer from Blizzard Entertainment, named Valentine Powell pretty much echoed that sentiment in a short tweet. Powell said that features, like intrusive UI elements, don't have to be present in every game because they are effective in other games. What Elden Ring is doing could-and should-be a teachable moment for Western game developers.
Bruno Dias, a designer and writer at Sunless Skies developer Failbetter Games said to MMOexp over Twitter DMs that the heated debate shows that some people don't comprehend what FromSoft is trying to accomplish by introducing Elden Ring.
"It's fairly easy to make a case for criticism of Elden Ring's UI/UX but it seems incurious to me to say that it's not good in a general sense," Dias said. "It's...fine, definitely livable for the majority of people who play the game. And there's definitely some level being unable to understand why some things are in the way that they do."
Dias pointed out that unlike other open-world games, the Elden Ring map does not constantly update to reflect your most recent developments, but it offers tools to allow you to mark it up with your fingers.
However, the minimalist UI compliments Elden Ring's strength as an exploration game that is open to the world. The minimal HUD allows players to stroll through the Lands Between unimpeded by objective markers or overly-detailed icons. It's easy to get lost and not feel the pressure of getting through the task of defeating the boss. It's relaxing and, specifically, reinvigorating because the game trusts that you'll find your way whether by intuition, guides, observation, or all three.
"I am not convinced that every decision makes is completely in the end, it's true that there are a few instances that Elden Ring Runes for sale seems to be acting in a certain manner to a specific reason," Dias said.
